Pastor Clay was licensed to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ in January1999. Pastor Clay began his ministry as a deacon. Pastor Clay was thoroughly equipped to accept God's present calling as Senior Pastor of New Creation. Pastor Clay recently graduated from Andersonville Theological Seminary of Camilla, GA; he received a Bachelors of Religious Education and is currently working towards his Master's of Theology Degree in Pastoral Theology. During the year of 2002 God began to speak to Pastor Kenneth T. Clay; "I have a new thing for you." After hearing the voice of God, Pastor Clay began to pray concerning the revelation God had given him. In the latter part of 2002, during Pastor Clay's prayer time, God's voice became clearer. During this time of prayer, Pastor Clay asked the question, "God what do you want your new temple of dwelling to be named?" God spoke and reminded him that "If anyone be in Christ, he is a New Creation". From that point forward, Pastor Clay began to call that which was about to be birthed out of him, "New Creation.
A HISTORICAL VIEW: THE SPIRIT OF NEW CREATION CHRISTIAN CHURCH
"I knew you (New Creation) before I formed you …,
I set you apart and appointed you as my spokesmato the world." Jeremiah 1: 4, 5
This abbreviated historical view of New Creation Christian Church is a brief account of a church that was called ten years ago and is continually blessed by God. New Creation's history serves as evidence and as a testimony to the world of how a church is defined by the body and not by a building, and of how a church is learning to be content where it is while moving forward with God to where He wants it to be.
In October 2002,God implanted in the heart of Pastor Kenneth T. Clay the seed to plant a church that is called to make matured loving disciples who, love God, love others, and serve the world, spreading the Gospel to the lost. Based on II Corinthians 5:17, Pastor Clay named the church New Creation Christian Church, known as NC3. With the loving support of his wife, First Lady Sonya M. Clay, Pastor Clay announced the "birth" of New Creation. They invited family, friends, fellow churches, and members of the community to join them at a program celebrating this birth March 2, 2003, at the church's first home, Copeland Elementary School on Jackson Road. The following Sunday, March 9, 2003, Sunday school and the first worship service were held. Even though New Creation began with very few members, seven of whom were of the Clay family, Pastor Clay taught the Word, planned and organized the church as if there were over one hundred members. Because of pre-planning and advanced preparation, Bible study classes, as well as the Sunday school classes, began the first week the church met. Moreover, as membership increased, Pastor Clay began guiding and helping members identify their spiritual gifts, personality types, skills, and talents. He conducted and provided opportunities for members to attend various trainings and workshops within and outside the church. With a focus on leadership training, he began developing leaders and more teachers in the church.
"Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person
who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents
and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house,
it won't collapse because it is built on bedrock." Matthew 7:24-25
"All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching,
and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord's Supper),
and to prayer." Acts 2:42
Beginning at Copeland Elementary with a strong, solidly faithful spiritual foundation, New Creation has been able to be a church wherever God has blessed it to dwell and to touch and be touched by many lives. Throughout the ten years, God has always provided New Creation with a place to worship, study, fellowship, and serve together: Hillcrest Baptist Church (January 2004 - May 2010); Damascus Road Building (June 2010-July 2010); The Clay's house (July 2010 – August 2010); Terrace Manor Elementary School ( September 2010 - November 2010); The Clay's house (December 2010 – April 2011); The Robinson's house (May 2011 – February 2013) and Gracewood United Methodist Church (March 2013 - Present). It has not mattered whether New Creation has congregated in a school building, church building, warehouse, or a member's house. New Creation has continued to be a church, a church that worships the Lord, teaches the Word, fellowships, ministers/serves, evangelizes, etc. What a glorious journey manifesting that faithful believers make the church, not the building! Additionally, when God opened the hearts and doors of Hillcrest Baptist Church and Gracewood United Methodist Church to New Creation, what a glorious journey manifesting how people of different races and even different denominations can come together under one roof in worshipping and serving Him!
"Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the
prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility
is to equip God's people to do his work and build up the church, the body of
Christ. … that we will be mature in the Lord …" Ephesians 4:11-13
New Creation gives all the glory to God for the spiritual growth and changed lives of its members over the ten years. In learning to love each other, members form a bond in which they join together in studying and growing in the Word of God. Small groups and various ministries have been formed to help lead and guide the members in their process of spiritual maturity: Circles of Love (Bible Fellowship/Sunday School classes for all ages), Children/Youth Ministry, Children's Church, Bible Study Classes, Brotherhood Ministry, Sisterhood Ministry, Evangelism Ministry, New Members Class, Vacation Bible School, Trainings/Seminars/Workshops, Personal Devotionals/ Other Resources, etc.
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season
we will reap, if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9
New Creation is believing God for its own church building some day, but in the meantime Pastor Clay, First Lady Clay, and the members will continue to trust God in growing the church spiritually and numerically in His own time. Thank God for using New Creation as an example of a church that perseveres. Under the leadership of a faithful pastor who, like Noah, is not afraid to step out and is willing to move when God tells him no matter how odd or strange it may appear to the world, New Creation Christian Church will fulfill the unique purpose and plan God has for it. The following quote sums up the reason New Creation Christian Church does not give up and keeps moving forward:
"We believe for many things, but beyond them all, we believe in SOMEONE. That Someone is Jesus. We don't always know what is going to happen. We just know it will always work out for our good." Joyce Meyers
"IT IS NOT WHERE YOU ARE! IT IS WHO YOU ARE WHERE YOU ARE!"
